The Image of Computing Task Force leads a national coordination effort to expose a realistic view of opportunities in computing. We aim to educate the public and those with the aptitude and interest to pursue computing careers, on the increasing vital role computing plays in every major field.

Key Task Force Functions:

  • To coordinate national program efforts.
  • To promote active involvement and consistency among participants.
  • To be a valuable resource of information related to this cause.
  • To convey positive images of career opportunities in computing.
  • To counter concerns about job security created by the dot-com crash and the outsourcing scare.
  • To encourage the very brightest college students to study computing.
  • To encourage more CS undergrads to go on to grad school.
  • To raise public awareness of how computing powers our daily lives.

Our strategic focus has 3 main thrusts:

  • Distinguish - Gain public acknowledgement and appreciation of the importance of computing to society and the positive impact is has on our quality of life. Build awareness of the difference between use of computers versus the practice of computer science.

  • Include - Broaden the appreciation of computing by building allies in other professions who acknowledge computing as essential to enabling breakthroughs in every major field.
